Introduction

At an altitude of more than 3,700 meters, breathing becomes difficult and the headache persistent. In this remote part of the Andes, there is a splendid work of Andean engineering measuring 28 meters long and 1.20 meters wide that persists in modernity.

A tradition that for the rural communities of Huinchiri, Chaupibanda, Choccayhua and Ccollana Quehue has survived for more than five centuries thanks to the intercession of the divinity. “If we do not build a new bridge every year, we risk provoking the wrath of the Pachamama and the Apus, who every June have the task of rebuilding the Inca bridge that still persists in modernity.

Overview

The Inca bridge of Q’eswachaka is the only one that still exists. It is located about three hours from Cusco by car, in the province of Canas. Adventure and culture lovers should visit this place, appreciating the fact that it is the last of a tradition that has been carried out annually for 600 years, it is living history.

People who have the courage have the opportunity to cross the bridge which measures 28 meters and is made of coya (bunch grass) and sticks and is attached to the original foundations of the Inca bridge. Day 1

Last Inca Bridge - Tour Qeswachaca

Pick up of our passengers at 4:30 a.m. at their hotels or at the departure point indicated in case they are in remote locations. 5:00 a.m. departure from Cusco city heading south to Yanaoca. 9:00 a.m. after enjoying our breakfast we will leave for our first and desired destination “Inca Qeswachaca Bridge”the last Inca bridge still surviving to modernity. Where we will be able to cross and take pictures for 1 hour. 11:00 a.m. we will leave with return to Yanaoca where we will have the visit of the viewpoint where our guide will explain us of the revolution of Tupac Amaru, to our return we will be able to observe the Volcano of pavilions for about 20 minutes. At 1:00 p.m. we will be able to enjoy a delicious menu that our chef will make you look forward to. At 2:00 p.m. we will have a place to participate in one of the traditional activities of artisanal fishing and spend a walk in the Urinsaya lagoon in the “GRAN AMARU”, On our return we can enjoy the most beautiful scenery of the 4 lagoons: Pomacanchi Lagoon, Acopia Lagoon, Asnaqocha Lagoon, Pampamarca or Tungasuca Lagoon. (ride on the Gran Amaru and fishing activity). In these lagoons we can observe a variety of birds such as the Parihuanas, wild ducks and Pelicans. After these activities we will return to Cusco arriving at approximately 7:00 pm.

How to Get

There are two ways to visit the bridge and experience its wonder and incredible craftsmanship.

On your own – This way is a little more difficult, but some prefer it. You will need to start by finding a cab driver who knows the route. Not many people know the exact route, so asking someone at your hotel or hostel may be a good way to start.

We recommend that you bring food for the day in case you don’t find anything you feel like eating. It is a long trip and the food in town can be quite basic. This is especially necessary if you suffer from allergies or have dietary preferences.

You will have to negotiate with the cab to wait for you and take you back to Cusco. You can expect to pay around 200 soles for this service for the whole day.

With an agency – This option is usually cheaper and you are guaranteed to arrive safely. With these trips, you will also have your meals included, so you only need to bring snacks. You will also be able to stop at different places to see more along the route.
